Mission: California’s Young Leaders Incorporated (YLINC) was established to ensure California invests in its youth population especially those in traditionally under served and marginalized communities.
YLINC provides consulting services that allow youth practitioners with youth suggestions and feedback and test assumptions to improve programming for youth. This consultation helps youth practitioners identify problems and consider solutions. YLINC facilitates this service through interviews, focus groups, or surveys with young people.
Why We Do What We Do:
Many studies on youth point to their need to have access to high quality developmental opportunities, above and beyond the school day, to help them build positive relationships, engage learning, and develop a sense of purpose.
In California, far too many parents have a difficult time providing high quality, affordable activities for their children, beyond the school day. This problem is worse for families who are low-income.
California’s Youth-Development System must reflect what we know helps young people transition from adolescent to adulthood.
Exciting things are taking place in the State of California. Youth of all ages are stepping up and making their voices heard on the various inequities, gaps, silos and blinders of their generation.
Through YLinc, youth are encouraged and are able to take their seat at the table; ready to influence decisions and form youth-adult partnerships for the purpose of creating a comprehensive Youth-Development System.
Our Youth Engage and Develop:
- Open Space Meetings are held weekly, and provide a safe place for youth to learn and build together.
- Use of Council and Sacrate Circles as a strategy for healing and building resilience. http://www.storytribe.net/programs/method.html https://www.centerforcouncil.org/trainer-leadership-initiative.html
At these meetings, youth:
- learn about issues like economic development, advocacy and collaboration, change and mindfulness
- participate in fun, leadership building activities, and work together on events, speaking engagements and campaigns.
